The Director, Customer Insights is responsible for driving the customer and market insights capabilities at maurices.
Responsible for all voice of customer work, this strategic leader will evangelize the maurices customer through qualitative and quantitative customer-centric insights. This position will complete all customer research work, including developing a customer intelligence learning agenda, leading internal & external customer research efforts, managing an ongoing VOC program, and integrating research insights with new and existing resources that influence brand strategy, identify whitespace opportunities, and provide ongoing customer feedback to influence strategic direction and business actions. They will function as a strategic thought partner and trusted advisor to the SVP, Marketing and other Brand leaders to translate customer and market insights into key business strategies and fuel tactical business decision making.
Performance requirements
- Be the expert on our current customer and prospective customer including their needs, wants, shopping habits, perceptions, and customer journeys
- Lead the development and execution of the customer intelligence learning agenda based on business questions, performance goals & outcomes, strategic priorities, macro trends, etc.
- Synthesize information from both primary and secondary sources, including partnership with analytics functions to validate qualitative findings with quantitative customer and business data, turning into actionable insights.
- Present findings and actionable insights to leadership and business partners at all levels in the organization
- Define and establish key metrics to understand and measure maurices position in the market (i.e. brand awareness, brand perception, NPS)
- Support the SVP, Marketing in championing the formation of learning organizations that drive customer centric decision making.
- Drive the successful execution of all strategic and tactical research initiatives with a particular focus on brand development, product, marketing, service, experience optimization and short term innovation.
- Function as the ‘unbiased voice of the customer”, demonstrating independence and a talent for sharing objective findings.
- Own cascading and ensuring optimal utilization of all customer and market insights data.
Work Experience and education requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or Master’s a plus
Experience:
- 3 years of experience in strategy consulting, retail and/or consumer package goods with heavy rotations in Customer Insights engagements
- 8+ years of overall work experience ideally through a combination of strategy consulting and retail or CPG
Skills:
- Strong strategic mindset and ability to recognize opportunities and implications and translate that into actionable insights / recommendations
- Strong analytical, quantitative and qualitative skills, prioritization across multiple tasks, project management and problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to partner effectively across organizational boundaries; highly collaborative
- Advanced proficiency in consumer research, including experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods and marketing intelligence sources
- Insatiable curiosity, particularly related to consumer behavior and the “why”
- Strategic thinker with passion for the industry and analysis
- Highly analytical with exceptional critical thinking skills and understanding of analytical concepts (i.e. key metrics, ROI, etc.)
- Innovative thinker with ability to synthesize data and blend with intuition and experience
- High degree of initiative, personal responsibility and ownership
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence at the leadership level and with cross-functional partners
- Advanced understanding of the balance between business and customer needs
