We currently have an opportunity for a Sr Tech Designer, Denim-Lane Bryant to join our team located at our LB NYC Design Off-LaneBryant-New York, NY 10011.Position Overview:
Senior Technical Designer, Denim
Executes the consistent fit of garments across all product categories in support of continued customer loyalty as the leading plus size retailer in the industry.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITES:
Executes Fit & Construction
- Translates the design concept developed by Design/Merchandising into specification packages which detail garment measurements, design features and construction requirements. Communicates with the vendors for production of brand right counter samples.
- Evaluates samples for fit, measurement, construction, pattern shaping and functionality to insure fit and proper styling. Has authority to accept or reject fit samples.
- Provides technical direction, internally and externally, on corrective actions needed to bring samples to brand fit standards. Utilizes written comments, sketches, photos or pattern making as needed to communicate. Shares information cross divisionally to insure continuous implementation of best practices.
- Issues grading guidelines to vendors after fit approval. Understands the issues, resolves problems, uses experience and knowledge to generate solutions and/or alternatives to insure fit consistency and customer satisfaction. When applicable, will assist the other operating divisions with solving garment construction and/or fit issues.
- Involves partners (Design/Merchandising) in the resolution of problems, as necessary; informing them of vendor’s capabilities to meet technical design standards.
Executes Communication
- Provides technical design information to buyers and design to insure all partners are up to date and product is meeting deadlines.
- Trains new associates in the technical design responsibilities and the fit approval process.
Proactively utilizes any available communication tool to convey
- technical issues/ requirements to vendors and to improve the technical design process.
- Translates technical information into lay terms for non-technical staff and non-domestic vendors.
Work Experience and education requirements
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in a technical design position in specialty retailing or manufacturing.
- Must possess experience with denim.
- Working knowledge of patternmaking, garment construction, extensive exposure to garment manufacturing.
- Computer Literate. Preferred experience with PDM/PLM or other software based specification system.
- Has demonstrated the ability to develop associate(s) broader responsibilities and is recognized by peers as a leader, trainer and someone to emulate.
- Recognized as possessing exceptional cross-functional teamwork skills.
- College Degree emphasizing Technical Design and/or Engineering, Textiles & Clothing.
