Computer Vision Research Scientist & Engineer

RTRC has a newly created position of Computer Vision Research Scientist & Engineer. In this role, you will join the Autonomous and Collaborative Systems team in the AI discipline at RTRC. The team is engaged in a wide variety of research topics with applications in Robotics, Commercial Aviation, Autonomy and Human machine teaming. We are looking for people who will thrive in a dynamic work environment and enjoy working on hard, cutting edge applied research problems.

Our ideal person has the ability to perform the following functions:

  • Research, design and develop prototype perception algorithms and implementation for a wide variety of applicable domains in robotics, manufacturing, aviation and inspection
  • Demonstrate proficiency and deep knowledge in computer vision, statistical machine learning methods, deep neural networks based applications
  • Demonstrate the potential to initiate, lead, and execute funding opportunities in both internal and external R&D.
  • Keep abreast of the latest developments in the field by continuous learning and enthusiastically champion new ideas and new problem definitions.

Additionally, this role requires an ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment focused on innovation and be able to partner with leading, worldwide institutions (university, government agencies, national labs, and professional organizations) to meet organizational objectives. We need someone with exceptional communication skills and ability to provide timely, accurate and detailed reports, presentations and technical papers for archival journals

Education / Certifications

  • Master's Degree required
  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering or related quantitative discipline (Statistics, Applied Mathematics) preferred.

Basic Qualifications

  • You've obtained a Master's Degree or Ph.D. Preferred fields of study include Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering
  • Applicants with a MS degree will be required to have at least 2+ years research industry experience and or performance on a government agency proposal
  • Those who have completed their Ph.D. program can be considered without any formal post-graduate experience
  • Wide breadth of knowledge of fundamentals in computer vision and machine learning
  • Hands-on experience with popular deep learning frameworks
  • Good Coding skills in two or more programming languages such as Python, C, C++, Java etc.
  • You have demonstrated abilities in performing and publishing independent research.
  • At least one first author publication in CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, PAMI, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, JMLR, Siggraph, or other top tier research venues.
  • Experience with a deep learning framework such as Pytorch, TensorFlow, Caffe, or Theano a plus

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineer, or related engineering field with up to two years of post-grad research experience
  • Additional skills in programming would be a plus
  • Experience dealing with multi-spectral or multi-frequency phenomena
  • Prior experience with perception based experimental hardware setup and management
  • Exposure to new sensing modalities like event-based cameras
  • Working knowledge of sensor fusion, signal processing, reinforcement learning
  • Familiarity with Robotics software like ROS
  • Experience in publishing at high impact conferences or journals
