Desert Regional Medical Center is a 385 bed acute-care hospital classified as a stroke receiving center and level I trauma facility with an innovative , patient centered and evidence-based Rehabilitation Services Department. Our compassionate team provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including acute care rehabilitation, joint replacement & spinal surgery, neurosurgery, ICU, Telemetry, step-down care, skilled nursing, as well as outpatient therapy, hand and lymphedema clinics.

General Duties:

The LVN II performs, under the direction of the Registered Nurse, provision of care of patients to whom he/she is directly assigned. A basic understanding of medical and surgical problems is necessary, in addition to knowledge of appropriate nursing interventions related to the patient for which he/she provides care. IV certification and knowledge additionally required. Access to all Patient Health Information for treatment purposes only.

General Duties and Responsibilities

1. Supports changes in clinical practice and assists the Department Director implementing changes in hospital policies or practices.

2. Ensures compliance with departmental policies and procedures. Assume responsibility for knowledge and implementation of policy, procedure, and applies to practice.

3. Functions as a resource to co-workers. Acts as mentor as needed.

4. Participates in orientation of all new staff as assigned.

5. Uses self as a role model to promote health communication and safe work practices.

6. Maintains competence in nursing practice through attending in services and participation in ongoing continuing education per year.

7. Attends Annual Competencies as scheduled.

8. Participates in the Quality Improvement Program as requested by Unit Director. Is observant of other staff performance and practices, and reports deficiencies to Department Director.

9. Follows appropriate chain of command for problem resolution approaching problem solving with a positive attitude and suggestions.

10. Maintains and improves current knowledge of regulations pertaining to long term care.

11. Reports any observed unsafe conditions to appropriate personnel.

12. Utilizes standard precautions. Ensures others observed follow Standard Precautions.

13. Handles and disposes hazardous waste safely and appropriately.

14. Consistently handles oxygen safely

15. Reports malfunctioning equipment to the appropriate department timely.

16. Ensures call lights are answered timely when not actively involved in other duties. Reports patient need to the appropriate personnel.

17. Demonstrates guest relations in communication, cooperation and in giving assistance to patients, physicians, co-workers and visitors in a prompt and courteous manner. Exceeding the his component is demonstrated by the Unit achieving 4 or 5 star PSMS scores overall in a majority of months of the year.

18. Acts as the patients advocate and assures that patient rights are upheld.

19. Observes for, and promptly reports to the appropriate Clinical Manager, Director or Ombudsman, any observed patient abuse. Immediately intervenes appropriately if observes abuse in order to protect the patient from harm. Understands the law as it pertains to mandated reporting.

20. Participates in all Code Blue, Fire, Disaster and other emergency drill when present to ensure knows role in event of actual emergency.

21. Adheres to hospital attendance/tardiness policy.

22. Floats as needed and in turn to specified Units within contract. Only accepts assignments within scope of practice for License and competency. Immediately informs Charge RN if unable to safely provide care for any patient assigned. Offers to perform alternate duties within scope of practice and competency.

23. Attends all Ethics and other education required by the Hospital, Unit or Director.

24. Other duties as appropriately assigned by Unit Director.

Qualifications

Required:

· Possession of a current license as an LPT/LVN, issued by the State of California;

· Current American Heart Association BLS certification (maintain current at all times),

· IV Therapy Certification, issued by the State of California

Pay Range: $23.00 - $29.42 hourly **Individual wages are determined based upon a number of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications and experience
