Our company will require that a Data Governance Director lead and manage all organization-wide data governance activities and will have responsibility for improving the quality and managing the protection of sensitive and regulated data and information assets through the data life cycle. The position will focus on establishing and ensuring adherence to an enterprise data governance framework and for operationalizing Master Data Management, privacy regulation and other data policies, standards and practices, both at the department and Business and Functional area levels, to achieve the required level of consistency, quality and protection to meet overall business needs.

The Data Governance Director will collaborate with Business, Legal and Functional areas to ensure governance, data quality, data life cycle management and protection issues while improving the quality of core data assets, addressing regulatory requirements as well as supporting the strategic requirements of the department. This position reports into our Sr. Director, IT Compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and govern an enterprise data governance implementation roadmap including strategic priorities for development of information-based capabilities; Develop standards, policies and procedures to support the creation and provide technical assurance for the on-going implementation of the data governance policy within the business
  • Manage the delivery of the data governance program
  • Roll out an enterprise wide data governance framework, with a focus on improvement of data quality and the protection of sensitive and regulated data through modifications to organization behavior policies and standards, principles, governance metrics, processes, related tools and data architecture
  • Align the data governance program to the enterprise information strategy and applicable security, privacy and other regulation and embed and align Foot Locker’s information security and privacy strategy with any data governance programs and initiatives. Continually assess and identify risks in line with the Foot Locker risk management approach, ensuring they are mitigated and accounted for work within the data governance program
  • Define roles and responsibilities related to data governance and ensure clear accountability for stewardship of the company’s principal information assets; Identify and develop policies and standards that need to be put in place to ensure the roles can be carried out effectively and efficiently
  • Create and maintain ownership accountability of corporate data systems
  • Lead and develop teams across Foot Locker to ensure data governance policies and practices are embedded throughout the company, including by serving as a liaison between Business and Functional areas to ensure that data related business requirements for protecting sensitive and regulated data are clearly defined, communicated and well understood and considered as part of operational prioritization and planning
  • Support and supervise information stewardship activities and management of data quality, collection, retention and purposes of use
  • Develop and maintain inventory of the enterprise information maps, including authoritative systems and owners; Build and maintain a detailed audit of Foot Locker’s core systems and information assets that are held in these systems, as well as the teams, third parties and processes that use them.
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of data quality standards, data protection standards and adoption requirements across the enterprise; Use specialist knowledge and expertise to identify improvements through reducing data redundancy and appropriate data reuse; Develop and enforce data quality metrics outside of the data warehouse
  • Define indicators of performance and quality metrics and ensure compliance with data related policies, standards, roles and responsibilities, and adoption requirements
  • Lead Senior Management, comprising resources from the Business and Functional areas and IT business and operations functions, to achieve their objectives; resolve issues escalated from Business and Functional areas’ data governance representatives
  • Support project planning and management to ensure best practice and legal frameworks are followed with regards to data governance
  • In conjunction with the IT, provide progress reports to Board management and oversee periodic updates to the Department Data Governance Roadmap
  • Use specialist knowledge and expertise to identify improvements through reducing data redundancy and appropriate data reuse and coordinate external data sources to eliminate redundancy and streamline the expense related to those services

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • ABachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Computer Science, preferred
  • At least 8+ years of experience in Data, Data Analytics or Data Governance
  • Strong collaboration skills and a demonstrated ability to approach technical and business solutions in a consultative manner
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
