This is a hybrid position with in-person work required in Detroit, MI.
The Orthopedic Coder works independently on a daily basis responsible for the abstracting and coding of medical records and assigning codes with a high degree of accuracy.

- Adheres to the Tenet HIPAA Compliance Plan and the Privacy Standards Confidentiality Agreement.
- Demonstrates support for the Tenet Corporate Compliance Program by being knowledgeable of compliance responsibilities as expressed in the Code of Conduct; adhering to federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and corporate policies and procedures policies that affect his/her specific job functions/responsibilities; and reporting compliance issues/concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Reviews medical records and physician documentation to code patient charges
- Assists provider and practice staff with reviewing provider coding as needed
- Reviews coding denial/edits and appeals/corrects codes
- Prepares reports as requested
- Provide training to physicians and staff to improve coding outcomes
- Adhere to TPR productivity standards and submits daily productive reports
- Meet TPR accuracy and quality audit standard
- Additional responsibilities as needed.
- Coder must be proficient in orthopedic surgery and evaluation and management coding
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma/GED with completion coding program preferred
Certification: Certified Professional Coding Certificate required, COSC highly desired
Experience: Physician professional coding required with 4 years of experience preferred
