This is a hybrid position with in-person work required in Detroit, MI.

The Orthopedic Coder works independently on a daily basis responsible for the abstracting and coding of medical records and assigning codes with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Adheres to and supports the mission, purpose, philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of Tenet Physician Resources.
  • Adheres to the Tenet HIPAA Compliance Plan and the Privacy Standards Confidentiality Agreement.
  • Demonstrates support for the Tenet Corporate Compliance Program by being knowledgeable of compliance responsibilities as expressed in the Code of Conduct; adhering to federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and corporate policies and procedures policies that affect his/her specific job functions/responsibilities; and reporting compliance issues/concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Reviews medical records and physician documentation to code patient charges
  • Assists provider and practice staff with reviewing provider coding as needed
  • Reviews coding denial/edits and appeals/corrects codes
  • Prepares reports as requested
  • Provide training to physicians and staff to improve coding outcomes
  • Adhere to TPR productivity standards and submits daily productive reports
  • Meet TPR accuracy and quality audit standard
  • Additional responsibilities as needed.
  • Coder must be proficient in orthopedic surgery and evaluation and management coding

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma/GED with completion coding program preferred

Certification: Certified Professional Coding Certificate required, COSC highly desired

Experience: Physician professional coding required with 4 years of experience preferred
