McGuire AFB, thecommon name of the McGuire unit of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JB MDL),is a United States Air Force base located in Burlington County, New Jersey,approximately 15 miles from Trenton. It was consolidated with two adjoining USArmy and Navy facilities to become part of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-LakehurstOctober 2009, but remains commonly known by McGuire or McGuire AFB. McGuire innestled in North Hanover Township in a wooded, rural/agricultural area which isthe least densely populated area in the state. McGuire AFB neighbors NYC,Philadelphia, and Atlantic City.
REQUIREMENTS (dutiesinclude but are not limited to)
- Providehealth care to beneficiaries assigned to the Flight Medicine Clinic.
- Careshall include but not be limited to continuing, comprehensive healthmaintenance and medical care. Maintain a program of comprehensive health, toinclude preventive medicine, behavioral sciences, and community health.
- Maybecome the primary care manager for a panel of patients. As a PCM, the flightmedicine provider will be the primary person responsible for the management ofthe health and wellness of his/her assigned patients.
- Examinationof patients, formulation differential diagnostic plans, defines and ordersrequired diagnostic testing.
- Interpretationof examination findings and test results, and implementation of treatmentplans.
- Determineneed for consultation and assist in medical care and treatment provided at thedirection of other specialists.
- Approve/disapprovesubspecialty referrals.
- Answerpatient telephone consults with the assistance of clinic staff.
- Provideprimary and secondary preventive maintenance care.
- Provideappropriate military specific documentation such as (but not limited to)narrative medical summaries for Medical Evaluation Boards and medical profilepaperwork.
- TheChief, Flight Medicine Clinic will make specific duties/patient careassignments. All inpatients will be admitted as per the local MTF instructions.
- Becapable of adequately diagnosing and treating a wide-range of adult acute andchronic diseases and injuries, including but not limited to, conditions of the:
- Skin PulmonarySystem, Head Gastrointestinal System, Eyes Musculoskeletal System, EarsGenitourinary System, Nose Reproductive System, Throat Lymphatic System, NeckCentral Nervous System, Cardiovascular System Endocrine System, Psychiatric andBehavioral Health.
- Becapable of adequately diagnosing and treating a wide-range of pediatric (ages2-18) acute and chronic diseases and injuries, including but not limited, toconditions of the:
- Skin PulmonarySystem, Head Gastrointestinal System, Eyes Musculoskeletal System, EarsGenitourinary System, Nose Reproductive System, Throat Lymphatic System, NeckCentral Nervous System, Cardiovascular System Endocrine System, Psychiatric andBehavioral Health, Well Child Checks, Normal Age Appropriate DevelopmentAssessments.
- Havesufficient experience to be able to adequately perform medical procedures toinclude, but not limited to, the following:
- Secure and maintainan adequate airway to include endotracheal intubation, Cardioversion of lifethreatening arrhythmias, Simple minor surgical procedures: punch biopsies,excision of skin lesions, Simple abscess incision and drainage, Nailtrephination, Sling or swath injuries, Lumbar puncture, Suture simplelaceration, Suture removal.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Mustbe a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from an accreditedschool.
- Boardcertification in Aerospace Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine,Occupational Medicine, or Preventative Medicine is highly desirable but notrequired.
- Musthave at least three (3) years active duty US Military Flight Surgeon experiencewhich must be within the previous five (5) years of date of hire. Physicianswith 10 years active duty Flight Surgeon experience in the US Army or Navy, andformer Air Force Flight Surgeons who have been separated or retired more thantwo (2) years, must attend the AF Aerospace Medicine Primary (AMP) 201 beforebeing granted full Flight Medicine privileges. Having completed a residency orfellowship acceptable to the US Air Force Surgeon General, is desirable, butnot required.
- Must possess current unrestricted license topractice in one of the fifty states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealthof Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
- Possessa current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac LifeSupport (ACLS), Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), and Pediatric Life Support(PALS) as approved by the American Heart Association (AHA).
